About sleep · The first pillar
The art of Sova
Sleep is the first of our three pillars, and the one we’ve built the entire hotel around. Most of the things that make a night better are neither expensive nor complicated – it’s about darkness, temperature, food at the right time, and light in the morning. Here’s what we do ourselves, and what you can do at home.
Make the darkness real
The eyes register light even through closed eyelids. With us, the blackout blocks out everything, even in June – and the difference is noticeable the first night.
Hemma
Blackout curtains in front of the entire window, not just the roller blinds. Cover or move charging lights and standby LEDs. A sleep mask works when nothing else will.
Sleep cooler than you think
The body lowers its temperature to fall asleep. A warm bedroom counteracts this – most people sleep too hot at home without knowing it. Our rooms cool down towards the evening.
Hemma
Aim for 16–18 degrees. Air out a quarter of an hour before bedtime, preferring a thicker blanket over a warmer room. A warm bath an hour before helps the body cool down afterwards.
Finish eating three hours before
A body that is digesting food sleeps worse. During our sleepovers, Anton serves dinner at six o'clock – just as carefully prepared, only earlier.
Hemma
Plan your dinner so that you finish it three hours before bedtime. If it's late, keep it light. Late-night snacking is usually the habit that bothers you the most.
Be careful with the nightcap
Alcohol makes you sleepy but disrupts the latter half of the night. Our alcohol-free track is the default choice during sleepovers – not out of principle, but because it is noticeable in your sleep.
Hemma
Try two weeks without alcohol close to bedtime and compare the mornings. Caffeine has a longer stopping distance than most people think – the last cup at lunch is a good rule.
Seek the light in the morning
Daylight early in the day sets the clock for the next night. With us, a walk out into the forest at eight o'clock is the single most active part of the stay.
Hemma
Get out within an hour of waking up, ten minutes is enough even in cloudy weather. Outdoor light is many times brighter than indoor lighting, regardless of the season.
Keep the same times
The body loves regularity. Three nights at our place follow the same rhythm every day – noon, darkness, morning light – and it's the rhythm that does the work, not individual tricks.
Hemma
The same rise time every day, even on weekends, is the habit that gives the most results. Bedtime can vary – it's the morning that counts.
The package
Sleep – two nights in sleep
Do you want to do all this for real, two nights in a row, with someone else who can handle it? We've built a stay around the darkness of southern Öland – dinner at six o'clock, seventeen degrees in the room and the elf in the morning light.

The room type
Would you rather start with just one night? The Sleep Experience is our room built for sleep – total blackout and a mattress that maintains the right temperature throughout the night. Bookable as a regular room, year-round.
